The choice depends on the season. For summer, polyester jersey with ultraviolet protection (UPF) is ideal, as it quickly wicks away moisture and cools the body. For the mid-season and winter, it is better to choose fleece or Polartec - these materials retain heat even in wet conditions and allow the body to “breathe.”
Specialized models have extended sleeves with a thumb hole (to protect the hands), a high collar, or a built-in buff mask for the face. In addition, the cut of fishing sweatshirts is looser in the shoulders, which does not restrict movement while casting a spinning rod or working with a landing net.
Most fishing sweatshirts should not be washed using aggressive bleaches or fabric softeners, as they clog the pores of the fabric and destroy the protective UPF layer. Gentle washing at a temperature not higher than 30-40°C and drying in natural conditions without using an iron are recommended.
Fishing clothing should not be too tight. If you plan to wear the sweatshirt as a mid-layer (under a jacket), choose your standard size. If it is an outer layer for summer, it is better to choose a model that fits loosely - this will create an additional air layer for better thermoregulation.
Fleece sweatshirts retain heat well, but they can be penetrated by strong wind. If you are planning fishing on open water or from a boat, choose models with Windstopper or Softshell technology. Summer jerseys, on the contrary, usually have perforated inserts under the arms for maximum ventilation.
