The choice directly depends on your method of transportation and the available space in your trunk. Soft buckets made of PVC or EVA are valued for their compactness, as they take up almost no space when folded. Rigid plastic models offer superior stability and durability, and they are much easier to clean after using oily attractants.
Having a lid is critical for maintaining the proper consistency and "mechanics" of the groundbait. It protects the mix from over-wetting during rain and prevents it from drying out under direct sunlight. Additionally, a tight lid blocks strong odors from additives and flavorings in the car interior during transport.
For a standard one-day fishing session, a volume of 12 to 17 liters is considered the most versatile. If you use a cordless drill with a whisk or plan to sift the mix through a riddle (sieve), it is better to choose 20–25 liter models to prevent the bait from flying out over the sides during active mixing.
These containers, often called "kuns" or live bait stations, feature an opening for an aerator tube and a special mesh insert. The mesh liner allows you to instantly lift all the live bait out of the water to select the right fish, which is especially convenient in winter or during an intense predator bite.
The best method is to thoroughly rinse the bucket immediately after your session, before the bait particles have a chance to harden. To remove sharp smells, you can use ordinary baking soda or specialized detergents without strong perfumes, which could otherwise repel sensitive fish during your next trip.
